La edad relativa en los jugadores de balonmano en Portugal

El efecto de la edad relativa ha sido objeto de estudio como elemento diferenciador en el desarrollo de los deportistas. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar si los jugadores de balonmano tienen más probabilidades de lograr un alto rendimiento, según el mes y año de nacimiento, y verificar estas posibilidades según el género de los atletas. Se seleccionaron 13630 jugadores de balonmano que representan a todos los jugadores de Portugal. Se analizaron las variables relacionadas con género, competencia, internacionalidad y fecha de nacimiento. Se verificó si el año de nacimiento fue par o impar y el trimestre variable de nacimiento. Para determinar el efecto de la edad relativa, se utilizó la prueba de chi-cuadrado. Para valorar la ventaja del nacimiento en años pares, las diferencias en la proporción de nacimientos en años pares e impares se verificaron mediante la prueba binominal. Se encontró un efecto significativo de edad relativa. No está en la 1ª división, sino en los niveles de formación. El efecto se observa tanto en el nivel de jugadores seleccionados para los equipos nacionales en categorías inferiores como entre jugadores no internacionales y no en los internacionales absolutos. En general, tampoco hubo tendencia a tener más jugadores nacidos en un año par que en un año impar.
