Sobre a Revista

Aim and Scope

e-balonmano Com, Journal of Sports Science is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal co-published by the Publications Service of the University of Extremadura and the Extremadura Handball Federation. The journal is published exclusively in electronic format and aims to disseminate original, rigorous, and relevant research in the field of physical activity, sport sciences, and physical education.

The journal publishes scientific studies that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in sport, exercise, physical activity, and physical education across performance, educational, health, inclusion, recreational, and sport management contexts. Manuscripts may be submitted in Spanish, English, or Portuguese. Submissions in English are especially encouraged when the topic has international relevance.

The journal is published three times a year: January-April, May-August, and September-December.

Priority areas

The journal considers manuscripts related to the following areas:

  • training and competition analysis;
  • sport performance and training optimization;
  • sport pedagogy and physical education;
  • physical activity, health, and quality of life;
  • adapted sport, inclusion, and disability;
  • sport and exercise psychology;
  • sociology, history, economics, and sport management;
  • observational analysis, assessment, and applied methodology in sports sciences;
  • technology, innovation, and sport performance monitoring;
  • gender studies, equality, and inclusion in sport.

Particular consideration will be given to manuscripts that provide a clear contribution to scientific knowledge, are based on sound methodology, present a strong theoretical foundation, and discuss their findings in relation to recent international literature.

Types of manuscripts

The journal primarily publishes original empirical research articles based on quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses may also be considered, provided that they follow international reporting standards, including the PRISMA statement and, where applicable, prior protocol registration.

Narrative reviews and theoretical essays are not a priority manuscript type for the journal. They will only be considered exceptionally when they address an emerging, highly relevant, and insufficiently developed topic in sports science; provide a strong conceptual contribution; are supported by a transparent and well-justified literature search strategy; and offer clear implications for future research and professional practice.

Initial editorial assessment

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening by the Editor-in-Chief or the editorial team. This stage assesses the manuscript’s fit with the journal’s aim and scope, compliance with author guidelines, formal quality, originality, methodological adequacy, and adherence to ethical principles in scientific publishing.

Manuscripts that fall outside the journal’s scope, do not comply with the author guidelines, present major formal problems, are not properly anonymized, show substantial methodological weaknesses, or do not provide a sufficient scientific contribution may be rejected without external peer review.

Manuscripts that pass this initial assessment are sent for double-blind peer review.

Practical applications

e-balonmano Com, Journal of Sports Science particularly values manuscripts that include clear implications for professional practice in physical education, sport training, physical activity, health, inclusion, sport management, or performance. Practical applications should derive directly from the study findings and be presented in a precise, realistic, and useful manner for researchers, teachers, coaches, health professionals, and sport programme managers.

Open access and publication fees

The journal publishes all its content in open access, promoting the free dissemination of scientific knowledge. e-balonmano Com, Journal of Sports Science does not charge any fees for manuscript submission, processing, or publication.

Editorial commitment

The journal promotes scientific quality, transparency, academic integrity, equality, inclusion, and the international dissemination of research in sports science. Authors must ensure the originality of their work, compliance with applicable ethical standards, proper citation of sources, and the absence of redundant publication, plagiarism, or data manipulation.
