Subjective Well-Being Levels and Motivation to Exercise During Covid-19 Isolation

Due to the public health risk and with the intention of reducing the pace of the disease (Kraemer et al., 2020), several countries
adopted measures. The pandemic situation caused most countries in the world to adopt, first, measures of social distancing (Reis-Filho & Quinto, 2020) and, subsequently, measures of Social Isolation (IS) which affected the well-being of the populations.
In response to the pandemic, the Portuguese government adopted extraordinary measures (Decree-Law no. 10-A/2020, March 13) to promote social isolation - there were two major periods of confinement.
The aim of the study is to verify the effect that sports practice has on the levels of subjective well-being and motivation to exercise during the Isolation Period by COVID-19.
This is a cross-sectional study, in so far as it visualises the context of a given population at a given moment in time (Araújo, 2011), and exploratory and correlational nature.
The study included 822 individuals (Male, n=382; Female, n=440), with a mean age of 28.43±12.07. We used three questionnaires, being them the Behavioral Regulation in Sport Questionnaire (BRSQ); the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS); and the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS).
The results showed that individuals with better levels of autonomous motivation tend to have better levels of perception with life satisfaction and to manifest positive affective behaviours. In this way, the levels of subjective well-being and motivation to exercise are directly related.
