Strategies of the physical education teacher in secondary school: impact on motivational variables according to gender and student's extracurricular sports practice

The objectives of the study were to analyze the motivational orientation used by Physical Education teachers and how these are related to the perception of basic psychological needs and fear of the phallus, considering the existing differences depending on sex and their sports practice. extracurricular. To do this, the participants responded to the Scale of Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise, the Performance Error Evaluation Inventory and the Motivational Strategies Questionnaire in Physical Education classes. The sample was made up of 1063 students between 12 and 18 years old (522 males). The results reflected that motivational strategies oriented toward mastery are positively related to the satisfaction of basic psychological needs. In turn, boys have a greater perception of the use of performance-oriented strategies, greater satisfaction of basic psychological needs and less fear of failure. Likewise, those students who practice extracurricular sports have a greater perception of performance-oriented strategies, satisfaction of basic psychological needs and a lower fear of failure. It is necessary for teachers to apply motivational strategies that enhance a motivational climate of mastery.
