The plyometry uses the reactive ability of the neuromuscular system to increase the power of movement. Isometry refers to a static modality of training. Handball is a sport that involves a wide variety of movement associated with ball manipulation and interaction between athletes. The objective of the research is to analyze the influence of 4 weeks of plyometric and isometric training on the explosive strength of young handball athletes. The sample consisted of 10 women, with a mean age of 16.1 ± 0.56 years, practicing handball for at least three months. The evaluation protocol used was: medicineball shot (MS) for explosive upper limb strength. The girls were divided into two groups, the plyometric group (PG) and the isometric group (IG). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Effect Size. Initially the tests presented the following results: the PG 3.25 ± 0.89m and IG 3.68 ± 0.30m. After four weeks of training the tests were redone and the PG showed 3.63 ± 0.54m and the IG 3.85 ± 0.27m. Statistically the changes were not significant and analyzing the magnitude of the effect the results were small for both protocols. It is concluded that both methods present a small evolution in the explosive strength of upper limbs.
